The Steps
Are you ready for a not-so-normal hair color? Having pink hair is playful and flirty and in this guide, I will show you the exact process and the exact products to use so you have permanent hair color for six weeks or more.
What you Need
Clarifying shampoo/conditioner
Pravana Chromasilk Vivids in hot pink
Hair bleaching kit
Disposable gloves
Dark towels or ones you don’t care to throw away
Cheap hair ties
Plastic grocery bag
Optional: A bowl, a hair color mixer brush, aluminum foil
The Steps
Shampoo and condition your hair with your choice
of clarifying shampoo and conditioner. Suave makes a inexpensive
clarifying shampoo but it all depends on your preferences. You may blow
dry your hair but be sure to use a cold setting as this process takes a
toll on your hair.
Put on disposable gloves. Gloves help
protect your hands from getting the hair
bleach in any hang nails you might have and also protect the
natural skintone on your hands.
If you are bleaching your whole
head, part your hair down the middle and where your ears are, part it
again so you have 4 sections of hair separated into individual
ponytails. If you are only doing chunks, separate the rest of the hair
that isn’t getting bleached and put that in a pony tail. After you’re
done dyeing your hair in chunks, roll it up and place aluminum foil
around it so it doesn’t get into any hair you don’t want dyed.
Find
a place that is well ventilated as all hair bleach stinks.
Start
bleaching the hair that’s going to be pink. If you have previously
colored your hair and it’s fading out at the roots, start from bottom to
top. This will make it so your roots aren’t lighter than the rest of
your hair.
Placing a plastic grocery bag over your head will help
in not getting the hair dye everywhere.
Wait the time the
instructions tell you to. If you find that it’s not bleach blonde that
way you want it, leave it in for five minutes more and check the color.
Keep checking your hair after five minutes after the initial waiting
period.
When you wash it out, the best thing to do is to not
use any shampoo or conditioner as this will cause it to fade a lot
faster. You can now take out the hair ties in your hair.
Take
off the gloves after washing out the hair dye.
If you want to
use a blow dryer to dry it, use a cold setting. You can also air dry it
and I find that is the best method.
Place a towel over your sink
and around the parts you are standing. The hair dye that I recommend
stains like crazy so you’ll definitely want to not miss this step.
Place
the Pravana in a bowl. I like placing it in a bowl because it has a
gel-like consistency and it’s easier for me to control the amount of
hair dye I have in my hands.
Put on another set of gloves. If
you don’t want hot pink hands for three weeks, this is also not a step
to miss.
Starting placing the hair dye in your hair. Repeat the
steps for the bleaching.
Place another plastic bag over your
hair.
Since Pravana doesn’t burn, I usually wait an hour before
washing it out.
When washing it out, keep your gloves back on
and keep a cup in the shower with you to wash out any hair dye that
drips. Wash it out until your water is no longer pink. If you find that
it stained your bath tub, 409 Spray with bleach removes the stains.
Now
you can remove your gloves.
During the next week, don’t wear
any light colors. You may have washed it all out so the water is not
pink but it will come off on light-colored collars. To keep up with
your new hair color, I recommend washing it with a sulfate-free shampoo
and conditioner.
I recommend Pravana because it’s permanent so
it will last six or more weeks. It’s the only kind of permanent wild
color hair dye. You can find Pravana on Ebay or if you know a hair
stylist that will order it for you, you can get it that way.
